The Strait of Bocaina, embracing two islands

The Strait of Bocaina is the name of the sea strip which divides Lanzarote from Fuerteventura. It’s only 15 km, the Lobos Island is the only thing in between.

It’s not difficult to see an Island from the other because there is a small distance, 

the sighting may be preveted only during the days with a reduced view.

How to get to an Island from the other

There are several shipping lines that make the route between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Among them there are Armas, Fred Olsen Express and Romero Shipping line.

The usual route for proximity is the one between Playa Blanca and Corralejo.

On one hand the short journey is an advantage. It lasts between 25 and 35 minutes. On the other hand, the departures are frequent in both directions. This helps the transfer between the Islands.

An other way to cross the Strait of Bocaina

Even if the most usual way is using the ship, every year there is the  Bocaina International Crossing.

This year there will be the 20th edition of this event , which gathers athletes from all around the world. The celebration of this race started during the year 2000.

The 19th of October, the attendees will be able to choose among different routes.

The most adventurous will swim for all the 15 km which divide Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The other option reduces the route to 8.10 km. That’s no bad!

The starting signal will be at the 7.45 and all the different swimming groups will begin their  challenge.

Even if there isn’t a fixed time to make the itinerary, the maximum time within 2:45 pm.

In order to rest, from 1 pm to 3.45 pm, there will be a lunch. At 3:30 pm there will be the delivery of the trophies. In the end, at 9 pm there will be the closing Ceremony and a holiday-gift drawing.
